Installation of MySQL 5.1 on Windows Server 2003

For installation of MySQL 5.1 on Windows Server 2003 download the following files:

Windows MSI Installer (x86)
-MySQL Community Server
http://dev.mysql.com/downloads/mysql/5.1.html

MySQL GUI Tools Bundle for 5.0.
-MySQL Administrator 1.2
-MySQL Query Browser 1.2
-MySQL Migration Toolkit 1.1
http://dev.mysql.com/downloads/gui-tools/5.0.html		  
- After downloading the above files start the mysql-5.1.34-win32.msi

- For a first time installation just leave the setup on Typical it will install the most commonly used items for the MySQL server to get you started with.

- The default installation will place the MySQL programm files in:
C:\Program Files\MySQL\MySQL Server 5.1\

- The data container files (the actual database files) will be placed in:
C:\ Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\MySQL\MySQL Server 5.1\

For future insallations it will be probably easier to change the paths to something more easy going.

- When the Installation wizard is complete your next step will be configuring the MySQL server so leave the configure the MySQL Server now checked and click Finish.
